In your book bin you should find:
a light green page. Please give it to your parents. It tells them what to do and how to contact me
a white envelope that sounds mysterious. Do not open it. Keep it in a safe place until I tell you to open it... a long time from now.
pages with a red cover called "Daily Multiplication Practise". You will use this each day for math
pages with the title "Reading Data from a Tally Chart". You will need these each day for math, too.
Number all the pages in the package with the red cover. Don't count the red page. The page called "When do we multiply?" should be 1. You should get to 8 pages.
Do the first page. Only do the front side, and send me a picture.
We use tally marks in our class a lot - to see how many points Grade 3 has, how many the teacher collects, and to see how many votes we get for the name "Drift".
When we count with tally marks, we make groups of 5. We make 4 up-and-down lines, and then connect them with a diagonal 5th line. Then we start a new set. When we're done we can skip count the sets by 5. For a quick review, watch the video. It's a fun song that explains tally marks.
Do p.136 in the photocopies, and send me a picture. It's the front page, called Reading Data from a Tally Chart.
Watch the video below. (Hey! Did you notice that watch is spelled with 'tch'? Tell your mom or stuffy why it's not spelled wach. Hint: something about a short or long vowel sound)
Today we're reading chapter 2 of Stone Fox. Can you find our grammar sentence from last week? It was:
"Digging up fields is not the same as riding over snow," he told her.
Also keep an eye out for our spelling word: irrigation
To read chapter 2 of Stone Fox, choose one of these options:
read it to yourself
listen to me read it (blue button below)
watch a video of someone reading it by clicking the video below
Turn to p.3 in your Stone Fox photocopies.
Start with the questions. Write complete sentence answers for the 3 questions.
The answer for #1 should have 2 sentences. One sentence will tell how Grandfather "talked to" little Willy, and the next sentence will be examples, maybe of how he says "Yes" and "No".
Remember, a complete sentence answer has:
a capital at the beginning
a period, question or exclamation mark at the end
copies part of the question
the answer to the question.
Now do the top of the page. Find each word in Stone Fox and read the paragraph it's in. The page it's on is written under the word. Now write what you think the word means. (Hint: broke does not mean that it fell apart.) You do not need to make an illustration for each word.
If you have worked hard and run out of time, you do not need to finish the vocabulary section.
Send me a picture of this page. I will pick the best sentence answer and hand out the trophy tomorrow!
If you have not spent 45 minutes yet on Stone Fox, find a comfy spot and read for the rest of the time.

Today we are looking at the story of how the Lord trains Joseph to place his trust in the Lord and to serve the Lord in all circumstances. There are two sheets in our binder dealing with the stories. The first one is a summary of what happens in Potiphar’s house, the second deals with the gift the Lord grants to Joseph in explaining dreams.
I doubled up the stories of Joseph in the house of Potiphar with Joseph in Prison to catch up with grades 5 and 6. I have placed the story on the website for grade 3 and 4. In the days to come we will be working together with grades 5 and 6 for stories, since both groups are dealing with the life of God’s servant Joseph. As today's story is a 'double header', it is fairly lengthy. We have estimated the time to spend on Bible and other subjects combined to be about a half hour. So, we will likely go into overtime for today.
As we continue through the week there will be stories told by Mrs. Cowling or Mr. O.
French: This subject is on hold for now, the students have some of the material at home, but we will wait with sending assignments.
Mr. O
We had just switched into Social Studies. Since we are trying a cooperative approach with grades 5 and 6 in Bible, we will not start with Social Studies just yet.
Bible Answers
I will place the answers to the Bible questions or blanks on the Bible sheets here. They can be used for correction and catch up purposes. Let me know when help is needed.
